Chatham woman dies after crash involving farm equipment

Chatham-Kent police are investigating a crash south of Thamesville that claimed the life of a 32-year-old Chatham woman.

Police said they were called to the scene at the intersection of Victoria Road and Botany Line shortly after 3 p.m. Sunday.

Officers said their investigation showed that a 62-year-old Thamesville man was driving a pickup truck that was pulling a grain vac northbound on Victoria Road and had just turned right onto Botany Line when his truck was hit from behind by a car that was being driven by a 32-year-old Chatham woman.

Police said the car was travelling at a "high rate of speed" at the time of the collision and that the woman was rushed to the hospital where she died from her injuries.

The 62-year-old Thamesville man driving the pickup truck was not physically injured.

Police said the Traffic Unit has taken over the investigation and anyone who may have witnessed the crash is asked to contact Constable Dan Carroll at dancar@chatham-kent.ca or 519-355-1092.
