UPDATE: One killed, six injured after three-vehicle crash in Chatham

One person has died and another sustained serious injuries after a three-vehicle collision in Chatham-Kent early Friday morning.

Chatham-Kent police said a single vehicle was travelling east on Queen's line when they crossed the dotted yellow line and struck a delivery truck travelling west. The truck lost control and struck a third vehicle travelling east.

All three vehicles came to a stop off the roadway.

A section of the road between McDougall Line and Merlin Road was closed Friday afternoon for the investigation.

Police said the driver of the first eastbound vehicle was not injured during the collision. However, the driver of the delivery truck was transported to the hospital with minor injuries.

The third vehicle was occupied by six adults.

Police said the driver of this vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene and the front passenger was transported to a hospital by an ambulance before being airlifted to another for urgent care.

The remaining four passengers in the back of the vehicle were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

Police are not releasing the names of the people involved.

"Members of the Chatham-Kent Police Service offer their deepest condolences to the family and friends of the deceased," police said in a news release.

The Chatham-Kent Police Traffic Unit is investigating this collision. Anyone with information is asked to contact Constable Dan Carroll at dancar@chatham-kent.ca or 519-355-1092.
