Latest Cascades Casino revenue brings in $338K

The Municipality of Chatham-Kent is receiving over $338,000 for hosting the Cascades Casino in Chatham.

For the second quarter, from July 1 to September 30, 2021, the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) has issued a non-tax gaming revenue payment of $338,828 to Chatham-Kent.

Cascades Casino opened in Chatham on July 16, 2019. The facility closed its doors in March 2020 due to the pandemic. Under the province's reopening framework, the casino opened back up with reduced capacity in July 2021.

The latest payment from the OLG is up slightly compared to its previous payment of $328,430 in April of 2020, which accounted for January 1 to March 31, 2021. It is however a decrease compared to the $401,654 payment that Chatham-Kent received for hosting the casino from October 1 to December 31, 2019.

“Our government is pleased that land-based casinos have reopened safely and are contributing to our provincial economy again,” said Minister of Finance Peter Bethlenfalvy. “Host communities are once again benefiting from local employment and the financial proceeds that support vital services through Municipality Contribution Agreements.”

The payment made by the OLG to host municipalities is based on a graduated scale of gaming revenue at the hosted site or sites.

Since April 2001, Chatham-Kent has received almost $14 million in non-tax gaming revenue.
