Blenheim barber to be featured on TV series

A local barbershop will be featured on a television series that showcases the world of men's grooming.

Black Comb Barbershop in Blenheim will be the latest barbershop to be featured on the series The Global Barber.

Hosted by Cedric Small, the series showcases barbers around the world, their culture, and their community.

"We were just filming in St. Thomas at the other location of Black Comb Barber Shop last week," said Small. "We decided we could come and do another episode in Blenheim."

While the lifestyle show is heavily based around men's grooming, Small said it also showcases the towns or cities where the barbershops are from.

"After shooting in St. Thomas and meeting Gregory, the owner of Black Comb Barber Shop, we felt it was right to showcase Blenheim as well," said Small.

Small has been in the profession of cutting men's hair for 25 years. His career has taken him around the world including Western Europe, The United States, Canada and more.

"We go to barbershops but we also showcase their town or city, it's entertainment and the talent inside the shop," said Small.

In March 2020, the pandemic put a halt on international travelling, so the crew decided to make their way across Ontario. The filming of season two started in Montreal and it will wrap up in Windsor.

Shop Owner Gregory Dennis was excited to have the show's crew at his shop Tuesday in Blenheim.

"It's not every day that someone gets to be showcased, especially in these parts of Ontario," the master barber said. "It's been really surreal when you think about it because it's not just about barbering but it's also about what's going on in the community."

Dennis opened his business in Blenheim nearly three years ago. He said the industry can be cut-throat at times and that he feels lucky to have this opportunity.

"I feel honoured to represent Chatham-Kent," said Dennis. "This is an achievement for me."

The Global Barber airs on OLN, Citytv, and it also steams internationally.
