CK police arrest three people in Chatham murder case

Three people from Chatham have been arrested and charged with murder.

Chatham-Kent police said Beau Veenstra, 31, of Howard Township died in the hospital on Friday from injuries received in a fight at an apartment on Tuesday, September 21, 2021.

Police said the victim went to the apartment on Sandys Street in Chatham and allegedly got into a fight with two other men and one woman inside. Veenstra received life-threatening injuries and was transferred from the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance to Windsor Regional Hospital for medical attention.

The suspects were arrested on Saturday. Melvin Manley, 49, of Sandys Street in Chatham, Daulton Bastien, 25, of Oxley Drive in Chatham, and Michelle Hunter, 41, of Sandys Street in Chatham, have all been charged with second-degree murder.

"Members of the Chatham-Kent Police Service offer their deepest condolences to the family and friends of Mr. Veenstra," police said in a statement on Tuesday.
