‘Shore to shore’ run raises $111K for CK Children’s Treatment Centre

The Children’s Treatment Centre Foundation of Chatham-Kent is getting a major funding boost thanks to the tireless efforts of a Chatham man.

On Thursday, Kevin Owen ran 100 kilometres across Chatham-Kent to help raise money for the foundation.

Owen started his shore to shore trek at 3 a.m. in Mitchell's Bay and made his way through Wallaceburg, Dresden, Kent Bridge, Chatham and Blenheim before ending in Erieau.

Owen completed the run in about 16 hours and fundraised a total of $110,000, beating his original goal of $100,000.

The money will be used for various vital programs at the Children’s Treatment Centre that are not funded by the government including social work programs, therapeutic recreation services and music therapy.

As a child, Owen himself took part in services that are offered at the centre for speech therapy. Two of his children have also benefited from the centre.

"The money raised...from Kevin’s run will go towards our social work program, our recreational program and music therapy program,” said Foundation President Mike Genge. “We are so grateful to Kevin for raising this money for our kids.”
