Chatham resident to run 'shore to shore' for CK Children's Treatment Centre

A Chatham man is preparing to run from "shore to shore" to raise money for the Children's Treatment Centre Foundation of Chatham-Kent.

Kevin Owen, who is a board member of the foundation, is gearing up to run 100 kilometres in one day with the goal of raising $100,000 to support the CTC Foundation.

The 39-year-old said has spent every day of the last eight months running roughly the equivalent of the ultramarathon he is about to undertake.

"I've always wanted to run an ultramarathon," said Owen. "So I thought, why don't I run 100 km and try to raise $100,000."

As a child, Owen took part in services that are offered at the centre for speech therapy and added that two of his children have also benefited from the centre.

"Many children throughout Chatham-Kent and further, benefit from the CTC's programs and services," said Owen. "I am doing what I can to support a centre that provides treatments and therapies for our local youth."

Owen will begin his run in Mitchell's Bay and run a specific route through Wallaceburg, Dresden, Kent Bridge, Chatham, and Blenheim until he wraps it up in Erieau.

He has set a goal to run the ultramarathon in a total of 15 hours on October 7, 2021, starting at 3 a.m. and spending most of the day on the roads of Chatham-Kent.

"I'm looking forward to the entire experience but the biggest thing is being able to raise money for the centre," said Owen. "I always think about where I would be now if I didn't have the treatment centre."
