Chatham Goodfellows 'excited' to make a return to in-person fundraising

After a year of hosting virtual events, the Chatham Goodfellows will mark the in-person return to collecting money, toys, and food for local families.

Chatham Goodfellows are preparing to launch their 67th “No Child Without a Christmas” campaign. The group will go back to fundraising and collecting goods through the traditional Porchlight and Street Sales campaigns.

President of Chatham Goodfellows Tim Haskell said it was important the group held their own fundraising this holiday season.

"This year will be different because we are trying to get back to normal," he said. "We want to do everything the way we used to do before the pandemic. The COVID-19 pandemic will not beat us."

According to Haskell, the food and toy packing operation will run out of the former Sears department store in Chatham. He said the group is anticipating helping around 1,700 families over the holiday season.

"We are not quite sure of the logistics on how toys and food will be picked up this year but as far as fundraising we will be doing that as we normally do," he said.

The age limit for children receiving toys and gifts this year will be "up to 12 years old".

"I can't wait to get back to normal," Haskell said. "The volunteers are a huge part of our campaign and are a great part of our community."

On Monday, November 1, 2021 Chatham Goodfellows will begin taking online applications for existing clients who will be in need this Christmas.

Beginning on November 8, 2021 between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Monday to Friday, those seeking assistance at Christmas can call 519-354-1146 to register for food and toys.

Community organizations that would like to donate toys and food this year can email Chatham Goodfellows at  info@chathamgoodfellows.ca or call 519-354-1146 on November 8 when the office opens.

Dates for the Chatham Goodfellows Porchlight and Streetlight campaigns will be announced as they are made available.
