Maroons open GOJHL season with two games in two days

The Chatham Maroons will kick off their GOJHL season with a pair of games this weekend.

The Maroons play their first regular season game in Komoka Saturday night at 7:15 p.m. against the Kings.

Maroons head coach Tyler Roeszler said they want to keep the momentum going a perfect 4-0 in preseason play.

"It helped that we started skating as a team basically at the start of August, so we've been practicing for probably five or six weeks by the time we started playing preseason games," said Roeszler, noting they have a lot of new players on the team this year. "We're just going to try to build our game and get used to building chemistry with linemates and getting used to our systems and how we want to play but it's been really positive the last several weeks of practices and preseason."

Roeszler said along with the young rookies, they do have a number of veteran players who have played with the team before.

After visiting the Kings on Saturday, the Maroons will head back to Chatham to host the St. Marys Lincolns on Sunday at 3:30 p.m. at Memorial Arena.

Anyone who wants to attend the game will need to provide proof of vaccination.
