Domestic disturbance leads to a pair of arrests

A man and a woman are both facing charges after a verbal argument at a residence in Chatham allegedly escalated to a physical fight.

Chatham-Kent police said they were called to the scene Tuesday night, adding that the man -- who was on probation and wasn't supposed to be communicating with the woman -- was not physically injured, but the woman was taken to the hospital for medical attention before she was later released.

A 25-year-old man of no fixed address was charged with one count of assault and two counts failing to comply with his release conditions.

A 27-year-old Chatham woman -- who was also wanted on an outstanding warrant -- was arrested and charged with assault with a weapon and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

Both of the accused were taken into police custody pending a bail hearing.

Call about a man with a knife ends in charges

A 33-year-old Walpole Island man is facing two weapons-related charges after someone called police about a man who was allegedly carrying a knife on Dufferin Avenue in Wallaceburg.

Police said they received the call at around 4:30 a.m. Wednesday, adding that they found the man and allegedly learned that he had a prohibited weapon in his possession.

The accused was arrested, charged with two weapons-related charges, and later released pending a future court date.

Call about suspicious vehicle leads to arrest

A 36-year-old Blenheim woman has been charged after police followed up on a tip about a suspicious vehicle that was parked in a private lane on Tenth Line south of Chatham.

Chatham-Kent police said when they were investigating the call, they believed the woman was driving under the influence of alcohol, so she was arrested and taken back to police headquarters where she refused to provide a sample.

The accused was later charged with impaired driving, refusing to provide a breath sample, and driving while prohibited.

She was later released pending a future court date.

Man banned from local business arrested after he showed up again

A 30-year-old Chatham man is facing charges after he allegedly stole from a business on Grand Avenue West in Chatham he had previously been trespassed from.

Police said they were notified of the theft Tuesday morning, adding that when officers arrived, they allegedly found the man still in possession of the stolen items.

The accused was arrested, charged, and later released pending a future court date.

Truck reported stolen in Chatham

Chatham-Kent police are investigating after a blue 2004 Chevrolet Silverado was reported stolen from a residence on Patteson Avenue in Chatham.

Police said the truck was last seen with Ontario license plates BD4 7153 and it's believed it was taken sometime between 11 p.m. Monday and 6 a.m. Tuesday.

Officers said it was located on King Street in Wallaceburg at around 11:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Officer recognizes suspended driver, pulls him off the road

A 52-year-old Wallaceburg man who wasn't supposed to be behind the wheel is facing charges after he was allegedly spotted driving on St. Clair Street near Pioneer Line.

Police said an officer on general patrol recognized the man as a driver who is known to have his driving privileges suspended for unpaid fines, so the officer initiated a traffic stop.

The driver was charged with driving while under suspension and driving with no insurance and he will now be required to answer to the charges in court. His vehicle was also towed from the scene.
