Spitter charged with assault

A 34-year-old man of no fixed address has been charged with assault after he allegedly spat at another man during an argument.

Chatham-Kent police said they were called to the scene on Wellington Street West in Chatham Monday afternoon, adding that the two men who were arguing know each other.

The man accused of spitting was arrested, charged with assault, and later released with a future court date.

Police looking for stolen Jeep

Chatham-Kent police are appealing to the public for tips as they try to track down a white 2018 Jeep Compass that was reported stolen from a residence on Little Street in Wheatley.

Police said it's believed the vehicle was taken sometime between 7 p.m. Sunday and 6 a.m. Monday, adding that it was last seen with Ontario license plates BRWP 117.

Concrete saws, other machinery stolen from truck

Chatham-Kent police are investigating after someone broke into a truck in Wallaceburg and took off with about $10,000 worth of construction-related equipment.

Police said the theft took place sometime between 11 p.m. Sunday and 5:45 a.m. Monday when the truck was parked on Larkwood Street.

The following items were reported stolen:

- Husqvarna soft-cut 150 concrete saw

- Stihl 14'' concrete saw

- Stihl 12” concrete saw

- Stihl 9” concrete saw

- Marshalltown hand floats

- Marshalltown 6" concrete edgers

- Marshalltown permashape finishing trowels

Metal wires stolen from container

If you saw any suspicious activity at a fenced compound on Queen Street in Chatham sometime over the weekend, police would like to hear from you.

Police said someone forced their way into the compound sometime between 5 p.m. Friday and 8 a.m. Monday, cut the lock to a sea container, and took off with approximately 1,700 pounds of 2" copper / lead wires that were set aside for disposal.
