Man accused of blocking in tenants, threatening to burn house down

A 41-year-old man of no fixed address is facing charges after he allegedly threatened to burn a house down in Chatham and blocked the exit.

Chatham-Kent police said the man allegedly forced his way into the multi-unit dwelling on Wellington Street at around 9 p.m. Sunday and left some items on the stove while threatening to burn the place down.

Police said the man, who knows one of the tenants in the building, then placed a garbage bin and a shopping cart outside of the door, blocking the tenants from exiting.

Officers said someone inside was able to remove the items from the stove before a fire started and police were able to find the man responsible a short distance away.

The accused was arrested and charged with break and enter with intent to commit arson, mischief endangering life, and uttering threats.

He was set to be held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Woman arrested for hanging around with the wrong man

A 34-year-old woman of no fixed address is in more trouble with the law after she was allegedly staying with a man who had been banned from communicating with her.

Police said they arrested her Sunday night at a motel on Grand Avenue East while they were responding to a disturbance call.

The woman was charged with facilitating a breach and she was later released pending a future court date.

Officers are still looking for the man.

Woman accused of assaulting her boyfriend

An 18-year-old Windsor woman has been arrested and charged with assault in connection with a disturbance that was reported on Queen Street in Tilbury early Monday morning.

Police said their investigation showed that the woman had assaulted her boyfriend.

She was taken into police custody and was still being held there Monday morning.

Gold and silver rings stolen during break-in

Chatham-Kent police are investigating after someone allegedly broke into a residence on Monarch Drive in Chatham and stole 13 gold and silver rings.

Police said the break-in took place sometime between September 15-17.

Police called to Sunday crashes across CK

One person is facing charges and a second crash is under investigation after police were called to two separate collisions in Chatham-Kent on Sunday.

In the first case, police said they were called to the scene of a single vehicle crash on Selton Line between Kenesserie Road and Glassford Road Sunday morning.

Officers said the driver was taken to the hospital for medical attention and that the damage caused by the collision was estimated at $5,000.

Police didn't disclose the nature or severity of the person's injuries and said the crash remains under investigation.

In the second crash, a 63-year-old Chatham woman was charged with disobeying a stop sign.

Police said that was after a two-vehicle collision took place on Kent Bridge Road near Rose Beach Line Sunday afternoon.

Two people were taken to the hospital for medical attention after that crash and the damage was estimated at $45,000.

Police said in addition to those two collisions, they received two other reports of collisions involving wildlife. As a result, officers are reminding drivers to use extra caution when travelling during dusk and dawn hours because that's when wildlife are more active.
