Second outbreak declared at Chatham hospital

The Chatham-Kent Health Alliance (CKHA) is reporting its second COVID-19 outbreak in less than a week.

The Chatham-Kent Public Health Unit declared the outbreak at CKHA on Saturday after three patients in Rehabilitation/Stroke Unit tested positive for the virus. Hospital officials said the three cases are believed to be a result of hospital transmission.

The health unit is working to contact patients and families who may have been exposed to the infected patients to inform them of the appropriate measures to take.

Another COVID-19 outbreak was declared at CKHA's Chatham site earlier this week on Tuesday. The hospital reported the outbreak in the Medicine Unit after two patients tested positive.

While these outbreaks are in effect, visitors and care partners will be not be allowed in the  Medicine Unit and the Rehabilitation/Stroke Unit.

As of Friday, the health unit reported that there are currently nine patients at CKHA who are being treated for COVID-19.
