Woman accused of breaking into man's trailer

A 37-year-old woman has been charged after she allegedly broke into a man's trailer while he was sleeping and assaulted him.

Chatham-Kent police said they were called to the scene at Riverside Estates on Longwoods Road in Chatham shortly after 9:30 a.m. Thursday and learned that the homeowner woke up to find the woman, who he knows, inside his trailer.

Police said the woman allegedly caused about $500 to the trailer by breaking in through the window before assaulting the man and then taking off.

Officers were able to find her a short distance away and arrested her.

She was charged with break and enter while committing an assault and was later released pending a future court date.

Man allegedly throws knife at officer's face

A 52-year-old man has been arrested and charged after he allegedly threw a knife at a police officer who was investigating a domestic violence call.

Chatham-Kent police said they were called to a residence in the Chatham area Thursday afternoon for a report of a man who had damaged a mirror in the home while he was arguing with his wife.

Police said when they arrived, they found the man a short distance away with a knife in his possession.

Investigators said officers asked the man to drop the knife, but he didn't comply, so they used a taser on him.

The man then allegedly threw the knife at police, narrowly missing an officer's face.

The accused was then arrested and charged with mischief, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and assault with a weapon.

He was later released pending a future court date.

Suspicious person call leads to drug charge

A 33-year-old Chatham man is facing a drug-related charge after police allegedly found him carrying around more marijuana than he is allowed to.

Police said they found the man when they were following up on a report of a suspicious person at a business on Grand Avenue East in Chatham.

When officers were investigating, they allegedly learned that the man had more than 400 grams of marijuana in his possession, which is well over the limit of 30 grams that is allowed under the Cannabis Act.

As a result, the cannabis was seized and the man was arrested and charged. He was later released with a future court date.
