New family physician in Chatham fills void

There's a new family doctor in Chatham.

The Chatham-Kent Family Health Team recently welcomed Dr. Benjamin Lau to the Chatham office.

Dr. Lau will stay in Chatham after completing his residency at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance.

“We are pleased Dr. Lau decided to remain in Chatham-Kent following his residency training. Dr. Lau’s decision to remain in the community, demonstrates the great benefit our local Family Medicine Residency Program has for the citizens of Chatham-Kent,” said Director of Medical Recruitment Laurie Nash.

Dr. Lau grew up in Toronto, graduated from McMaster University, and attended medical school in Ireland.

"The community has been very welcoming and I enjoyed doing my residency training in Chatham," said Lau. "I am excited to begin my practice and continue working with a great group of colleagues."

Dr. Lau is accepting patient referrals through Health Care Connect.

If you do not currently have a family doctor please contact Health Care Connect at 1-800-445-1822 or visit the province's website to register.

“On behalf of the Chatham-Kent Family Health Team and the Chatham-Kent Physician Recruitment Taskforce, I would like to take this opportunity to thank our municipal council for their support in our efforts to recruit family doctors for the community,” said Nash. “Work is ongoing to continue to attract family physicians and we look forward to welcoming them to the Chatham-Kent Family Health Team.”
