Man accused of cashing fraudulent cheques

A 38-year-old Dresden man is facing charges after five cheques that were reported stolen were used at local banks to withdraw money from the owners' accounts.

Chatham-Kent police said the cheques were stolen from two vehicles in Chatham in July.

Officers were able to identify a suspect after reviewing some video surveillance and arrested him Monday afternoon.

The accused was charged with possession of stolen property and fraud-related offences. He was later released pending a future court date.

Cyclist charged after collision in Chatham

A 49-year-old Chatham man has been charged after a collision on St. Clair Street in Chatham Monday afternoon involving a cyclist and a car.

Police said they were called to the scene between Maryknoll Road and Regency Drive at around 3 p.m. Monday.

Officers said the cyclist sustained minor injuries and was later charged with unsafely starting from a stopped position. He was also arrested on an outstanding warrant for failing to comply with his probation order and was later released with a future court date.

The damage resulting from the crash was estimated at $5,000.

Chatham church sign damaged

Chatham-Kent police are investigating after someone damaged a sign at the Christ Anglican Church on Wellington Street West in Chatham.

The incident took place sometime over the weekend and the damage was estimated at $500.

Tires slashed in Dresden

Police are also investigating a separate incident where someone slashed four tires on various utility vehicles that were parked on Queen Street in Dresden.

Officers said that happened sometime over the weekend and the damage was estimated at $600.
