Mischief reported in Wallaceburg

Chatham-Kent police are investigating after someone slashed the tires of another person's vehicle in Wallaceburg.

Police were called to Wallace Street Friday morning. A suspect was reportedly seen slashing tires around 5 a.m. and caused approximately $400 worth of damage.

Man accused of being intoxicated in public

A 42-year-old man has been charged with being intoxicated in a public place.

He was arrested after police were called Friday afternoon about a disturbance on Grand Avenue West in Chatham. He was released from police custody once sober.

Tools stolen during Chatham break-in

About $400 worth of tools have been reported stolen during a break-in in Chatham.

Officers were called to the Charing Cross area around 9:30 p.m. Friday. An air compressor and Black and Decker tools were reported stolen.

Police are encouraging residents to follow a 9 p.m. checklist in an effort to reduce "crimes of opportunity".

Every night at 9 p.m., police suggest residents follow the checklist below:

– Remove valuables and garage door opener from vehicles – Lock vehicles – Close overhead garage door – Lock door between garage and house – Close and lock all external doors – Ensure windows are closed and locked – Turn on an exterior light
