Former St. Vincent school purchased by Chatham Seniors Care

A local seniors group has bought the second surplus school up for sale in Chatham.

Chatham Seniors Care purchased the former St. Vincent Elementary Catholic School for $1 million. The sale was approved Tuesday night by the Board of Trustees at a special meeting for the St. Clair Catholic District School Board.

“Trustees are pleased to have this sale completed, as we continue to divest the Board of surplus properties,” said Board Chair John Van Heck. “It is gratifying whenever our properties that are no longer in use as schools can be repurposed to the benefit of the community.”

Board officials said St. Vincent Catholic School closed at the end of June.

Students and staff will transition to the new St. Angela Merici Catholic School on McNaughton Avenue West in the fall.

The Board has one other remaining surplus property that will also be sold on the open market. Offering dates have yet to be determined for the former Monsignor Uyen Catholic School site located at 255 Lark Street in Chatham.

Students and staff will relocate to the new site of the Monsignor Uyen Catholic School on Baldoon Road in September.
