CK Community Foundation and South Kent Wind dole out $325K in grants

An "unprecedented" number of applications has led to a significant increase in grants being handed out by the Chatham-Kent Community Foundation (CKCF) and South Kent Wind.

The group released its annual Spring round of grants this week, which included a total of $325,000 spread among 33 local organizations.

That's up significantly compared to $150,000 in grants that were issued to 11 organizations across Chatham-Kent through the Chatham Kent Community Foundation COVID-19 Relief Fund last spring.

"In response to the ongoing challenges in our community due to the COVID 19 Pandemic, we distributed a greater portion of the funds available than we traditionally would," noted CKCF Grant Committee Chair Irene Moore in a release. "We are also delighted to have had the opportunity to work with other partners in the community to provide financial assistance to even more worthy projects."

CKCF Executive Director Chris Pegg added that the "number of applications received this year was unprecedented" and that the grant request totals showed the committee "the current high level of need in the community."

The grants that were given out were used for a variety of projects including supporting the purchase of a new bladder scanner and new office chairs at the Chatham-Kent Hospice Foundation along with a new accessible bicycle at New Beginnings ABI & Stroke Recovery Association.
