Trio charged in McDonald Line weapons and drugs bust

Three people are facing drug trafficking and firearm charges after Chatham-Kent police seized around $26,000 worth of drugs during a search at a residence on McDonald Line near Highgate.

Officers with the Chatham-Kent Police Intelligence Section and Critical Incident Response Team executed a warrant at the residence early Thursday morning.

According to police, 59.6 grams of suspected fentanyl and 24 grams of suspected methamphetamine were seized along with two rifles and two pellet guns. The estimated street value of the illicit drugs is $26,240.

Police said they also seized $2,105 in Canadian currency and $2,700 worth of contraband cigarettes as well as a stolen ATV.

Three people were located inside the residence and arrested.

As a result, a 34-year-old Chatham-Kent man, 62-year-old Chatham-Kent man and 30-year-old Chatham-Kent woman have each been charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance for trafficking, two counts of unauthorized possession of a firearm, one count of possession of property obtained in a crime, one count of possession of unmarked cigarettes to sell and one count of possession of unmarked cigarettes.

In addition, the 34-year-old was charged with seven counts of failing to comply with a release order and four counts of possession of a firearm contrary to a probation order. The 30-year-old was also charged with seven counts of failing to comply with a release order.

None of the charges have been proven in court.
