UPDATE: Warning issued ahead of high temperatures

Very high temperatures are expected to round off the weekend for parts of southwestern Ontario.

Environment Canada has issued a heat warning for Chatham-Kent, Windsor-Essex and Sarnia-Lambton ahead of 31-34 C daytime temperatures that are expected on Sunday. The weather agency said with humidex values the temperature could feel closer to 40 C.

Overnight low temperatures are forecast to fall to only 20 to 22 C, providing little relief from the heat.

The heat is expected to last through to Tuesday night thanks to a cold front that is expected to bring showers and thunderstorms later in the day on Tuesday.

Young children, pregnant women, older adults, and people with chronic illnesses are at the greatest risk from the heat. Environment Canada is advising residents in the affected region to drink plenty of water and stay in a cool place.
