Screen cut from window

A 50-year-old Chatham man has been arrested and charged after he allegedly tried to break into a residence on Riverview Drive in Chatham.

Police said they arrested the man after receiving a call Wednesday morning about someone cutting the screen out of a basement window of a residence on that street.

Officers say they saw a man walking away from the residence as they arrived and determined he had tried to get inside.

The accused was charged with break and enter and was later released with a future court date.

Driver allegedly high on drugs crashes vehicle, flees scene

A 29-year-old Chatham man is facing an impaired driving charge and a future court date after he allegedly crashed a vehicle just outside of Chatham and then took off on foot.

Police said they found him while they were investigating a report on Wednesday morning of a single motor vehicle collision near Riverview Line and Dillon Road where the driver had reportedly fled the scene on foot.

The accused was arrested and charged with operating a vehicle while impaired by drugs.

He was later released from custody pending a future court date.

Two arrests on warrants

Chatham-Kent police have rounded up two more people who were wanted on outstanding warrants.

Police said one of them was a 23-year-old Walpole Island man. An officer on general patrol found him on Base Line in Wallaceburg Wednesday afternoon and learned that he was currently wanted for failing to attend court.

He was arrested and taken back to police headquarters where he was set to be held pending a bail hearing.

An officer on general patrol also caught up with a 23-year-old Wallaceburg woman who was wanted for failing to attend court.

Officers said she was arrested on Agnes Street in Wallaceburg Wednesday afternoon and later released from custody pending a future court date.

Man Found in Possession of Stolen Truck

A 32-year-old Thamesville man has been arrested after police found a stolen truck at his home on Canada Day.

Police said they received a tip that a stolen truck from Florence was at a residence on Jane Street in Thamesville. Officers went to the home and discovered the truck. The homeowner has been charged with possession of stolen property over $5,000.

Police also said the man is also bound by a court order not to possess any vehicles unless he has a bill of sale for the vehicle. He was also charged with failing to comply with his release order.

Police Arrest Separate Impaired Drivers

Two Chatham men have been charged with driving impaired on local roads on Canada Day.

Police said they received reports of an impaired driver on Erieau Road just outside of Blenheim Thursday night and when officers found the vehicle, they suspected the driver was impaired by alcohol. Investigators said the driver was arrested and taken to police headquarters for a breath test. A 19-year-old Chatham man has been charged with impaired driving and exceeding the blood alcohol limit.

Thursday night, another 19-year-old Chatham man was charged with driving while exceeding the blood alcohol limit after police stopped a vehicle on Grand Avenue in Chatham. Police said the driver failed a roadside test and was taken to police headquarters for a breath test. Investigators said the driver provided samples of his breath that were alleged to be over the legal limit of alcohol.
