RetroFest ready-to-stream into the weekend

The 2021 RetroFest Cruise and Car Show in Chatham is approaching fast and organizers say the live-streamed event is being kept true to its nature.

The event will kick off on Friday, June 25 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. with a live stream cruise party, guest speakers and music on stage. Then on Saturday, June 26 the live stream will continue from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and feature more cars, music and the award ceremony.

BIA Project Manager, Connie Beneteau said the award ceremony will feature the announcement of the Ms. RetroFest 2021 pageant, the Junior Judge awards, the Car-Choice awards and the Downtown Contest winners.

Earlier this year, event organizers announced the event was being pushed from May to June because of the stay-at-home order.

"We put it out to the public if they wanted the event to happen or not and people really wanted something," said Beneteau. "We hope to make the event live next year but this was the best we could do this year."

According to Beneteau, over 200 cars have already been registered for the event. There's no telling how many people will tune into the live stream but organizers are hopeful of a successful turnout.

"We are trying to make it so viewers can watch the event from the comfort of their own homes," said Beneteau. "That is the kind of idea we're going with."

If all goes well, Beneteau said organizers can see the event as a hybrid of the two - open to the public and streamed online.

"We can stream it for people who live too far away and couldn't make it but still want to see the event, they can go back and watch it."
