Municipal dog tag enforcement set to start

Chatham-Kent residents are being reminded to make sure that they have purchased their municipal dog tags for the year.

According to Pet and Wildlife Rescue (PAWR), representatives from the organization will begin an enforcement campaign across Chatham-Kent on June 14.

Animal control officers with PAWR will be contacting anyone who has not purchased their 2021 municipal dog tag.

"The by-law enforcement officers will be identified by their animal control uniforms and identification name tag," PAWR said in a media release. "In addition, the officers will be driving a vehicle marked with animal control."

Municipal dog tags can be purchased at the animal shelter in Chatham or at any municipal office. The cost of a dog tag is $38 per dog which includes the late fee provided the dog has been sterilized otherwise an additional $10 fee will be applied.

Residents who fail to purchase 2021 dog tags risk being fined $240.

If you no longer own a dog, you can contact 311 or call  519-360-1998 to have your dog licence account inactivated.
