Call about suspicious man leads to arrest

A 29-year-old Chatham man is facing a handful of charges after police allegedly found him carrying around some stolen wire and some illegal drugs.

Chatham-Kent police said they found the man a short distance from a fenced construction site on McNaughton Avenue East in Chatham at around 7 a.m. Thursday while they were following up on a report of a suspicious man.

When officers searched the man, they allegedly found a stolen spool of wire and some suspected methamphetamine on him.

The accused was charged with break and enter, possession of stolen property, failing to comply with his curfew, and drug possession.

He was initially taken into custody for a bail hearing and is now set to be held in custody until June 14.

Man accused of carrying knife, threatening to hurt someone's dog

A 37-year-old man is facing charges after he allegedly threatened to hurt someone's dog in Wallaceburg.

Police said their investigation started after receiving a report of a suspicious man in the area of Forhan Street in Wallaceburg who had a knife.

Officers said they found the man on Dufferin Avenue and learned that he had allegedly threatened to harm a citizen's dog before police arrived.

The accused was arrested and charged with possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and uttering threats.

He was later released pending a future court date.

Argument over puppies leads to pair of arrests

A 26-year-old Sarnia man and a 50-year-old Chatham woman who weren't supposed to be talking to each other are both facing charges now after they allegedly got into an argument in Chatham over some puppies.

Offiers said they responded to the residence at around 3:30 a.m. Friday and learned that the two people, who know each other and were both on conditions not to communicate with each other, were allegedly arguing over the ownership of some puppies.

The 50-year-old woman was charged with failing to comply with her release conditions and breaching her probation while the 26-year-old man was charged with breaching his probation and drug possession.

Domestic disturbance call ends with two arrests

A 24-year-old Ingersol woman and a 36-year-old Chatham woman are both facing charges after police responded to a domestic disturbance call at a residence in Chatham early Friday morning.

Police said their investigation showed that the Chatham woman was bound by conditions not to communicate with the Ingersol woman, who also allegedly falsely identified herself to police.

The Ingersol woman -- who was also wanted on an outstanding warrant -- was charged with obstructing police and was taken into custody pending a bail hearing.

The Chatham woman was charged with failing to comply with her release conditions and was also taken into custody pending a bail hearing.
