Chatham man accused of choking, hitting someone with a bottle

A 22-year-old Chatham man who was wanted by police in London is facing a handful of charges after he also allegedly choked someone and hit them over the head with a bottle Tuesday night in Chatham.

Chatham-Kent police said they made the arrest after they were called to investigate a "disturbance" at an apartment building on Grand Avenue West in Chatham.

When officers arrived, they reported seeing a male at the scene with a head injury. Police said the victim was taken to the hospital with what were later determined to be minor injuries.

The man accused of assaulting him was charged with assault with a weapon, choking, and breaching his release conditions by consuming alcohol.

Officers said the accused was also wanted by London police on an outstanding warrant, so after he was released from Chatham-Kent police custody, he was handed over to police in London.
