Chatham murder victim laid to rest

A man killed in an altercation in Chatham last week has been laid to rest.

A private service and funeral took place for Manny da Silva in Sarnia on Tuesday. The 35-year-old father was killed during an altercation involving several men on St. George Street near Park Avenue East in Chatham on June 3, 2021. Investigators added all of the men involved in the fight knew each other.

Da Silva was seriously hurt and succumbed to his injuries at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance. He was buried at Our Lady of Mercy Cemetery following the remembrance service at McKenzie & Blundy Funeral Home. Da Silva leaves behind a young son.

Kyle Samko, 26, of Sarnia was arrested in Sarnia on June 5, 2021 and charged with First Degree Murder.

The cause of Da Silva's death has not yet been made public.

It’s the second murder of the year in Chatham-Kent.
