Vaccination record broken in Chatham-Kent

A new COVID-19 vaccination record has been set in Chatham-Kent.

Chatham-Kent Public Health reported the weekly record for vaccinations set two weeks ago was broken last week with 8,387 doses going into arms during the week. The old record was 7,887 shots.

Public health officials are thanking all of the staff and volunteers for all of their efforts in making this happen. Site Lead at the mass vaccination clinic in the Bradley Centre Willi Kirenko took to Twitter and posted her gleeful reaction.

"We love breaking records when it comes to the safety and recovery of our communities," Kirenko said. "Congrats to CK and the entire CK Vaccination Team, including volunteers and staff at the front lines and those working hard behind the scene."

The health unit estimates 63 per cent of the population 12 years of age and older have received at least one dose.

On Tuesday, Chatham-Kent Public Health also reported one new case and two resolved cases to bring the total number of active cases down to 17. There are also four local residents in the hospital in Chatham, which is the same number as the previous day. No new deaths were reported on Tuesday and currently there are zero COVID-19 outbreaks.

Chatham-Kent Public Health is also hosting a live vaccine question and answer session Tuesday night at 7 p.m. for parents and youth. Vaccine questions can be sent to ckphucommunications@chatham-kent.ca or asked during the live event (need to be logged into a Google account) and they will be answered by a CK Public Health nurse.
