Homicide investigation underway after Windsor man's body found on Walpole Island

Ontario Provincial Police have identified the human remains that were located on Walpole Island in March as a Windsor man who was reported missing in February.

OPP said they have also determined that the man's death was the result of a homicide. The remains were found on Walpole Island on March 17, 2021.

Police have identified the deceased as 25-year-old Oyebode Oyenuga of Windsor, adding that he was reported missing to the Windsor Police Service in February 2021. At that time, police said he was last seen driving a 2015 white BMW with the license plate CRNW931.

The Lambton County OPP Crime Unit is taking the lead on the investigation. They are also working with the Windsor Police Major Crime Unit, Office of the Chief Coroner, Ontario Forensic Pathology Service, and the Walpole Island Police Service, under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB).

Police said at this time, there is "no identified risk to public safety," adding that updates will be provided as they become available.
