UPDATE: Damages pegged at $3M after Inshes Ave fire

The damages are estimated at $3 million and the cause is going down as undetermined after a large fire on Inshes Avenue in Chatham.

Fire officials said crews from Station #1 and Station #2 in Chatham responded to the scene at 285 Inshes Ave. just after 9 a.m. Wednesday.

By the time they arrived, the flames were already spreading to a neighbouring restaurant.

Firefighters worked quickly to stop the blaze from spreading to any other businesses in the area and Station #15 from Raleigh North was also called in to help out.

As of 1 p.m. on Wednesday, there were still almost 50 firefighters at the scene along with two aerial trucks and five lines that were all being used to control the fire.

Paramedics with Chatham-Kent EMS also attended the scene, providing support for firefighters and CK police, who also evacuated a number of homes in the surrounding area.

No injuries were reported as a result of the fire.
