A former Catholic school in Chatham is now for sale on the open market.

The St. Clair Catholic District School Board said the property of the former St. Agnes Catholic School, located at 55 Croydon Street, will now open with a request for offers (RFO) to the general public.

The move to proceed with an RFO comes after there was no interest from an approved list of public sector agencies. School boards are required to first offer a surplus property to approved agencies under Ontario Regulation 444/98 – Disposition of Surplus Real Property.

The property on Croydon Street is approximately 2.44 acres. The single-floor former elementary school building is approximately 20,516 square feet. The structure was built in 1959 and additions were made throughout the years, with the latest addition being in 2000.

Documents about the property can be found on the Catholic school board’s website. The submission deadline is at 12 p.m. on June 3. Questions can be sent to, however, the deadline to submit questions is at 12 p.m. on May 26.

Meantime, the school board also said two other remaining surplus properties in Chatham will also be sold on the open market. They include the former St. Vincent Catholic School and Monsignor Uyen Catholic School, which is scheduled to close at the end of June.

The St. Vincent property is located at 9399 McNaughton Line and Monsignor Uyen is located at 255 Lark Street. Offering dates have yet to be determined.

The three surplus properties are a result of a new school on McNaughton Avenue West that opened in September 2020. Staff and students at the current Monsignor Uyen site will relocate to the refurbished former Our Lady of Fatmia site on Baldoon Road in the fall. The school board previously said construction was still scheduled to be complete by July 30.
