CK residents invited to party from their couch

Despite the lockdown, a few local organizations are making sure Chatham-Kent residents can still have some fun from the comfort of their homes.

TekSavvy is teaming up with Chatham-Kent Eats, United Way Chatham-Kent and YourTV to host 'C-K’s Big Night In' next month.

The community-wide event will feature several local musical acts and be broadcast from venues across Chatham-Kent. There will also be a celebration of some local heroes and a focus on take-out from restaurants across the municipality.

Dava Robichaud, administrative and event coordinator at TekSavvy, said the event is being designed to help Chatham-Kent residents come together to recover from the past 14 months of COVID-19.

"When we are dealing with stress, or when we are under lots of pressure, we all tell ourselves that we just need a big night out to help take our mind off things," explained Robichaud. "Well, we can’t go out, so it became pretty clear that we need a big night in.”

'C-K’s Big Night In' will be streamed from 7 p.m.-9 p.m. on May 8 through Teksavvy TV, YourTV, or via YouTube.

According to a media release, all COVID-19 protocols have been followed during the production process.

In the next few weeks leading up to the event, organizers said the community can expect to see a lot of communication about the event.

"I think we have all seen the strength of this community, we’ve inspired each other, and we’ve also been an inspiration to other cities and provinces," said Morena McDonald, director of marketing and communications at United Way Chatham-Kent. "This celebration will be the perfect way for us all to come together with one massive virtual hug and hopefully give us all some extra energy going into spring and summer.”
