CK Alzheimer Society to hold scavenger hunt alongside virtual walk

Chatham-Kent residents are being invited to take part in a scavenger hunt while raising money for the local Alzheimer Society.

The Alzheimer Society of Chatham-Kent (ASCK) is hosting its Forget-Me-Not Scavenger Hunt in support of its virtual Walk for Alzheimer’s fundraiser.

The event takes place on May 29 from 12 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. During the scavenger hunt, people can enjoy Chatham trails and search for forget-me-not flower pinwheels with a team or by themselves.

In March, The ASCK announced that its annual walk would take place on May 29 and once again be held online this year because of the pandemic.

To participate in the scavenger hunt, you have to be fundraising, either online or offline, for the virtual walk.

You can click here to register for this year’s walk and to donate. Registration for the scavenger hunt can be done by calling 519-352-1043 or emailing jemery@alzheimerchathamkent.ca.

All scavenger hunt participants will get a bag with their clues as well as with several other items. One participant or a household team will walk away with a special prize.

"This scavenger hunt was inspired by local resident Marg who was featured in ASCK’s promotional video for the virtual walk," the organization explained through a media release.

"Marg walked 80-kilometres by her 80th birthday to honour her late husband who was affected by dementia. Part of her 80-kilometres walk was accomplished by walking along Chatham-Kent trails."

The ASCK said the scavenger hunt will be COVID-19 friendly. Because of the pandemic, only Chatham-Kent residents can take part.

Meanwhile, leading up to the events, the ASCK plans to celebrate their virtual walk throughout the month of May on their Facebook and Instagram pages.
