St. Thomas man banned from driving allegedly spotted in stolen vehicle

A 31-year-old St. Thomas man who wasn't supposed to be driving in the first place is facing several charges after he was allegedly caught driving a stolen vehicle in Chatham.

Police said they pulled the vehicle over at around 11 a.m. Monday on Prince Albert Road after seeing it travelling at "a high rate of speed."

Officers later learned that the vehicle had been reported stolen and that the man behind the wheel had been released from court less than a week ago -- one of his conditions was that he wasn't supposed to have care or control of a motor vehicle.

The accused was charged with two counts of possession of property obtained by crime and two counts of failing to comply with a release order. He was taken into custody pending a bail hearing.
