Blenheim woman wins $50K while supporting a good cause

It's a win-win situation after a Blenheim woman won $52,735 through the CK Charity 50/50 Raffle in support of the Chatham-Kent Hospice Foundation and the Children’s Treatment Centre Foundation of Chatham-Kent (CTCF).

The 50/50 raffle launched in February as a way of raising money for two local organizations that have had to cancel or change multiple fundraisers due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Nearly 3,000 people purchased tickets and the proceeds will be divided equally between the two organizations.

The raffle officially ended on Thursday and a winning number was announced over Facebook Live at 1 p.m.

The winner was later identified as Jenny A. When asked how she plans to spend her winnings, a few possibilities came to mind.

"I need a bit of time to think about it but... do some house repairs, pay down some debts, and put it towards my husband’s retirement," she said.

The 50/50 raffle was sponsored by the Lally Group, Greenfield Global, and Teksavvy.

The Hospice Foundation previously said $108,000 in donations is needed each month to support operational needs at the hospice. Meanwhile, the CTCF raises money to support the Children’s Treatment Centre which provides care and therapy to children and youth in CK who have physical, developmental or communication challenges.
