Man accused of impaired driving, resisting arrest

A 20-year-old Florence man is facing several charges after he allegedly drove drunk and tried to pull away from officers when they were arresting him.

Police said they made the arrest after they were called to a disturbance between a man and a woman in a parking lot on St. Clair Street in Chatham.

Officers said it's alleged that the man got into an argument with a woman who was in the vehicle with him and didn't allow her to leave. He's also accused of driving at a high rate of speed in a dangerous manner.

When police caught up with the man, they believed that he was driving while under the influence of alcohol, so they arrested him.

At that time, the man allegedly tried to pull away from police and did not comply with the officers. He was later taken to police headquarters for breath tests where officers allegedly confirmed that he had a blood alcohol concentration above zero.

As a result of the investigation, the man who was arrested was charged with driving while under suspension, being a novice driver with a blood alcohol concentration over zero, being a young driver with a blood alcohol concentration over zero, forcible confinement, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, and resisting arrest.

He was later released pending a future court date.
