Hike for Hospice going virtual again in CK

For the second year in a row, the Chatham-Kent Hospice Foundation will be taking its annual fundraising walk online.

Participants are encouraged to register online for Hike for Hospice, then head out to Mud Creek Trail between April 26 and May 2 to walk the route.

Their overall fundraising goal for 2021 is $75,000.

"Individually, there's no minimum fundraising goal per person, but we ask that people please collect pledges so we can put that towards that big fundraising goal of ours," said hike co-chair Randi Bokor.

The 2020 virtual walk raised over $79,000, and all of the money raised stays in Chatham-Kent.

"All of the money goes towards ensuring that the families in Chatham-Kent have compassionate end-of-life care at no cost to them," said Bokor.

The hospice will also be selling t-shirts and face masks.

Residents can still get involved even if they can't do the walk at Mud Creek. Bokor said they are encouraging people to do the walk wherever they feel comfortable, whether that is in their own neighbourhood or backyard.

"For our families who have had a loved one pass away at hospice, they can purchase a memorial sign," said Bokor. "Then we're going to put those up around Mud Creek Trail so that it's a nice moment of reflection when their families are going for their walk or hike."
