A 29-year-old Ridgetown man is facing assault charges after an argument turned violent.

Police said officers were called about a disturbance at a home in Ridgetown just before 7 p.m. on Sunday.

The 29-year-old allegedly assaulted a homeowner and broke two doors and two dining room chairs.

He was arrested and charged with assault, mischief under $5,000, and failing to comply with his release conditions by consuming alcohol. ---

Open alcohol allegedly found in vehicle with unauthorized plates

Charges have been laid after a 19-year-old Thamesville driver allegedly sped away from police in Wallaceburg.

An officer tried to stop a vehicle with unregistered licence plates around 1 a.m. Monday on Dufferin Avenue. Police said the vehicle took off "at a high rate of speed" but the officer did not chase the vehicle due to public safety.

The officer later spotted the vehicle in a parking lot on McNaughton Avenue about an hour later. The 19-year-old allegedly had a beer inside the vehicle at the time. It was seized and the vehicle was towed away.

The driver was charged with failing to stop, using plates not authorized for the vehicle, driving with no permit, and having control of a motor vehicle with open alcohol. The 19-year-old has a future court date scheduled for April 7.
