Presentation offers 'mental health check-in' with youth

A couple of local programs that work with youth in the community are coming together to talk about mental health through an online presentation.

The interactive presentation will be hosted by Blenheim Youth Centre (BYC) and Access Open Minds CK. The goal behind the presentation is to educate youth and their families on the importance of checking-in with oneself and learning about what local and virtual resources are available.

“There is no doubt the current climate we are facing has had a tremendous impact on the overall mental health and well-being of our youth and their families, and it is important to have resources and tools to help them cope during these times,” said L.A. Mercer, BYC manager of community engagement and program development.

Both the BYC and Access Open Minds have been working with youth during the pandemic in an effort to help them with any struggles they may be facing.

“We will discuss the impact that COVID-19 is having on our lives in general, as well as our mental health, and will introduce strategies that help foster positive health and well-being,” said Megan Walker, youth therapist for Access Open Minds CK.

The presentation will be held at 6:30 p.m. on March 10. A link to the session will be emailed to those who register ahead of time through the BYC's website or by clicking, here.
