Local schools show support for Wallaceburg nursing home

Staff and students and a couple of Catholic elementary schools in Wallaceburg are throwing their support behind a nursing home in the community that's been hard hit by COVID-19.

In an over five-minute video by the St. Clair Catholic District School Board, titled OurLoveToFairField, members of the school community can be seen with homemade signs of encouragement for the residents and workers of Fairfield Park.

The nursing home continues to grapple with a COVID-19 outbreak. According to the latest update on Friday, the facility was reporting 15 active cases among residents and 27 active cases among workers.

CK Public Health reported 93 total cases during the recent and second outbreak at the home which was declared on January 10 when a staff member tested positive for the virus. The first two residents tested positive on January 23.

The first outbreak declared at Fairfield Park ran from December 17, 2020, to December 22, 2020.

Staff and students at Christ The King, St. Elizabeth and Holy Family in Wallaceburg participated in the video as well as select schools from Port Lambton.

“Many members of our school communities have relatives who live and work at Fairfield Park,” said Principal of Sacred Heart Catholic School Courtney Mellow. “We wanted to send them messages to encourage them and let them know we love them and are praying for them.”
