Two shooting suspects still on the loose

Chatham-Kent police are still looking for two suspects in connection with a shooting on Harvey Street in Chatham last month.

One of them is 19-year-old Terry St. Hill and the other is a 17-year-old youth whose identity is protected by the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

They are wanted for three counts each of attempted murder.

Police believe both of them have ties to communities outside of Chatham-Kent and they are asking anyone who knows where they are to call 911 immediately.

No injuries after loaded school bus rear-ended

A 17-year-old Chatham teen has been charged with careless driving after a school bus with 20 students on board was rear-ended on Lacroix Street in Chatham Wednesday afternoon.

Police said three vehicles were involved in the collision, but no injuries were reported.

The damages were estimated at $6,000.

Man accused of stealing tools, wallet from vehicle

A 22-year-old Chatham man is facing several theft and fraud-related charges after he allegedly stole a backpack full of tools and a wallet from a vehicle on McNaughton Avenue in Chatham.

Police said the theft was reported Wednesday morning, adding that through their investigation, they learned that someone had used the victim's recently stolen debit card at three different businesses in Chatham.

Officers were able to identify a suspect by reviewing video surveillance and said they spotted a man walking on Gray Street Wednesday afternoon who was wearing the stolen backpack and the same clothing as they had seen in the video.

When they were searching the man after arresting him, police also allegedly found the victim's wallet on him.

The accused was charged and taken into custody pending a bail hearing.

Medical call ends with arrests

A 30-year-old Chatham man and a 25-year-old woman of no fixed address were both arrested after police were called in to help paramedics with a medical call in Chatham Wednesday afternoon.

Police said when they arrived at the residence, they found a man and a woman together there who were not supposed to be together.

Officers said they also learned that the man was wanted for failing to comply with his release conditions, robbery, and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

After he was arrested, police allegedly found some suspected fentanyl on him. He was charged accordingly and taken into custody pending a bail hearing.

Police said the woman who was with him was also arrested and charged with facilitating a breach of conditions. She was later released with a future court date.

Man accused of slamming head in police cruiser, assaulting nurse

A 28-year-old man is facing a handful of charges after he allegedly slammed his own head into some plexiglass in a police cruiser and then threw an item at a nurse while he was receiving medical treatment.

Police said the man was first arrested after they were called to a disturbance at an apartment complex in Merlin and learned that the man had allegedly threatened his neighbour there.

Officers said while the man was being arrested, he resisted police and then slammed his head into the plexiglass partition in the police cruiser on his way to police headquarters.

He was taken to the hospital for medical attention because his forehead was cut by the incident and while he was there, the man allegedly threw an item that ended up hitting a nurse.

Once he was medically cleared, the man was taken to police headquarters and charged with uttering threats, resisting arrest, and assault with a weapon. He was later released with a future court date.

Drug-impaired driver hits two parked vehicles, a tree and a fence

A 63-year-old Chatham man has been charged with impaired driving after a crash-filled cruise in Chatham.

Police said they were first flagged about the man's driving when a concerned citizen called in a tip Wednesday night.

Officers said their investigation showed that the man was driving erratically all over the roadway, hitting two parked vehicle and failing to stop at multiple stop signs before he did eventually stop after hitting a tree and a fence on Gregory Drive.

Police said by the time they arrived, the man was still in the driver's seat with the truck running and in drive.

The driver was taken to the hospital for medical attention and arrested for impaired driving. A Drug Recognition Expert later concluded at police headquarters that the man was impaired by a drug.

The man was then charged and released with a future court date.

Four arrests on warrants

Chatham-Kent police have caught up with four more wanted criminals locally.

Police said they arrested a 51-year-old Chatham man Wednesday morning who was wanted for breaching his probation while they were responding to a report of an unwanted man at a residence on Gray Street in Chatham. He was later released with a future court date.

A 20-year-old woman of no fixed address who was also wanted for breaching her probation was arrested Wednesday afternoon in Chatham. She was also released pending a future court date.

A 47-year-old Chatham man who was wanted in connection with a shoplifting incident was arrested Wednesday afternoon in Chatham and later released with a future court date.

And a 35-year-old man who was wanted on several outstanding warrants from Chatham-Kent police was arrested in Sarnia Wednesday afternoon and taken back to Chatham-Kent for court purposes. He was set to be held in custody pending a bail hearing.
