UPDATE: Charge laid after vehicle crashes into Chatham business

A 43-year-old Chatham woman has been charged with careless driving after a vehicle crashed into a business on St. Clair Street in Chatham Tuesday morning.

The damage was estimated at $35,000, but police said no injuries were reported.

Around 11:40 a.m., Chatham-Kent police closed a section of roadway after a vehicle drove into the front of the Centro Wood Fired Kitchen building at the corner of St. Clair Street and Grand Avenue West.

The road was reopened early Tuesday afternoon.

The Chatham restaurant later posted on Facebook, thanking the public for reaching out to the business.

"Not your typical Tuesday, but everyone is safe and sound. No window washing this week," read the light-hearted Facebook post. "In all seriousness, everyone is ok, and we look forward to seeing you all this weekend for takeout and delivery."
