Angry ex-boyfriend arrested after breaching release conditions

A 25-year-old Chatham man has been arrested and charged with multiple offences after an alleged crime spree that involved him breaking into someone's backyard before yelling at his ex-girlfriend and then driving away from police.

Chatham-Kent police said they arrested the man after they were called to a residence in Chatham early Wednesday morning to investigate a disturbance.

Police said the man allegedly forced his way into the backyard of a residence where his ex-girlfriend was by damaging a fence and then yelled at the woman and threatened to enter her residence even though he was bound by his release conditions not to communicate her.

Officers said as the woman called 911, the man fled the scene in his vehicle, but police were able to track him down a short distance away and attempted to pull him over.

Police said the man kept driving, though, until he pulled into the driveway of his residence. Once he had stopped, police arrested him.

The accused was charged with mischief, failing to comply with his release conditions, breaching his probation, and flight from police.

He was taken into custody pending a bail hearing.
