Police arrest break-in suspect

Chatham-Kent police have arrested a local man accused of breaking into three storage units in Blenheim last week.

Police said they were able to identify the man as a suspect in the case and arrested him Monday night.

When police were searching him, they also allegedly found some crystal methamphetamine on him along with a set of hard plastic knuckles that were designed to be used as brass knuckles.

As a result of the investigation, a 35-year-old Chatham man was charged with one count of mischief, three counts of break and enter to commit theft, one count of failing to comply with his release conditions and one count each of drug possession and possession of a prohibited weapon.

He was taken into custody pending a bail hearing.

Ridgetown man tased, arrested in stolen vehicle case

A 47-year-old Ridgetown man is facing several charges after he allegedly lied to police about his identity and tried to drive off in a stolen truck.

Police said an officer on general patrol found the stolen truck and trailer in a parking lot on Victoria Road in Ridgetown at around 3 a.m. Tuesday, adding that when the officer approached the truck to investigate further, the man falsely identified himself and tried to drive away.

The officer was able to stop the man, but he allegedly resisted arrest by continuing to accelerate the vehicle.

Police said the man was then taken out of the truck and "became aggressive" but he was eventually taken into custody after the officer used a taser on him.

The accused was charged with one count of theft, two counts of possession of stolen property, one count of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, and one count each of obstructing police and resisting arrest.

He was taken into custody pending a bail hearing.

Man accused of shoplifting an MP3 player

A 23-year-old Chatham man is facing charges after he allegedly stole an MP3 player from the Walmart in Chatham.

Police said they arrested him after getting a shoplifting complaint Monday night, adding they were able to identify a suspect with the help of video surveillance.

Officers arrested a suspect a short distance from the store and allegedly found the stolen mp3 player on him.

The accused was charged with theft, possession of property obtained by crime, and failing to comply with his probation.

He was later released pending a future court date.

Blenheim woman out past her curfew on an ATV

A 35-year-old Blenheim man who was supposed to be staying inside between 10 p.m. and 7 a.m. has been arrested and charged after she allegedly went out for an early morning ride on an ATV.

Police said an officer on general patrol stopped the woman shortly after 1 a.m. Tuesday after seeing an ATV driving at a high rate of speed in Shrewsbury.

Officers said the woman was charged with failing to comply with her release conditions and was taken into custody pending a bail hearing.

We're not in Kapuskasing anymore

A 31-year-old man who was supposed to be staying at a specific address in Northern Ontario has been arrested after he allegedly turned up in Blenheim early Tuesday morning.

Police said they found the man at around 3 a.m. Tuesday at a residence on Talbot Trail even though he had been ordered by the court to remain in his residence in Kapuskasing at all times.

As a result, the accused was arrested and charged with two counts of failing to comply with his release conditions. He was also set to be held in custody pending a bail hearing.
