Man charged with breaking in, setting fires

A 30-year-old man of no fixed address is facing charges after he allegedly broke into three units at a property in Chatham and started some small fires inside.

Police said they were called to the building Sunday afternoon, adding that through their investigation, they learned that the doors to all three of those units had been kicked in and in addition to evidence of some small fires, officers noticed some other damage as well.

Officers said they were able to identify a suspect and arrested him in connection with the case.

The accused was charged with one count of break and enter committing mischief and two counts of break and enter committing arson.

He was taken into custody pending a bail hearing.

Chemical products, microscope stolen from Ridgetown Campus

Chatham-Kent police are appealing to the public for tips as they try to solve a break-in at the University of Guelph, Ridgetown Campus where someone took off with various chemical products and a microscope.

Police said the break-in took place sometime over the weekend at the Horticultural Building.

The total value of the theft is estimated at $2,500.

Smash and grab at Wallaceburg pharmacy

Police are investigating after someone broke into the Rexall Pharma Plus on James Street in Wallaceburg and stole "various fragrances."

Officers said they responded to an alarm at the pharmacy at around 6:30 a.m. Sunday and learned that someone had smashed the back door and taken off with the stolen goods, causing about $1,100 in damage during the incident.

Three arrests on outstanding warrants

Chatham-Kent police have caught up with a 29-year-old Thamesville man, a 35-year-old Chatham man, and a 40-year-old Chatham man who were all wanted for a variety of offences locally.

Police said the 29-year-old Thamesville man was wanted for two counts of mischief, adding that when police arrested him early Sunday morning, they found some suspected fentanyl on him. He was charged accordingly and later released.

The 35-year-old Chatham man was wanted for failing to attend court to provide a DNA sample and was arrested while he was walking on Raleigh Street in Chatham Sunday morning. Officers charged him, the DNA order was completed, and then he was released pending a future court date.

The 40-year-old Chatham man was wanted for two counts of failing to comply with his release conditions. He was arrested Sunday morning, charged, and later released pending a future court date.
