Woman suffers serious injuries in crash on Wheatley Road

Chatham-Kent police are investigating a two-vehicle crash between Wheatley and Tilbury that sent a 36-year-old woman to the hospital with serious injuries.

Police said their preliminary investigation shows that a woman was driving a vehicle westbound on Goodreau Line at around 6 p.m. Wednesday when it entered the intersection at Wheatley Road and was hit by another vehicle that was heading south.

Officers said the woman who was driving the vehicle that was hit was taken to the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance with serious injuries and later transferred to Windsor for further medical attention.

Police said the woman's passenger, a 34-year-old man, and the driver of the other vehicle, a 41-year-old man, were both taken to the hospital as well, but only as a precaution.

The damage resulting from the collision was estimated at $30,000.

Wheatley Road was temporarily closed between Hornic Line and Campbell Line, and Goodreau Line was temporarily closed between Quinn Line and Campbell Line after the collision, but both of those roads are fully open again.

Police said officers with the traffic unit have taken over the investigation and anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to contact Constable Josh Flikweert at joshuaf@chatham-kent.ca or 519-355-1092.
