Dozens of unwanted emails lead to charges

A 54-year-old Chatham man is facing charges after he allegedly sent approximately 60 unwanted emails to his ex-girlfriend.

Chatham-Kent police said they got involved in the case last fall after a woman contacted police for help, telling them that her ex-boyfriend wouldn't stop communicating with her.

At that time, officers cautioned the man about his actions.

Despite that warning, police said between September 14, 2020 and January 18, 2021, the woman received dozens of unwanted emails from the man.

Police said they also learned that the woman had seen the man's vehicle in the area of her work place.

As a result, the woman's ex-boyfriend was arrested and charged with two counts of criminal harassment. He was later released with a future court date.
