Police recover stolen vehicle in river

Police are investigating after a vehicle was found in the Sydenham River in Wallaceburg.

It started on Saturday afternoon when an officer attended the area of McGregor Line and Cemetery Road in regards to the guard rail being down.

After investigating, it was determined that a vehicle had struck the guard rail and went into the river.

 A license plate was located at the scene which registered as being stolen from the Waterloo Region.

Chatham-Kent Fire attended the scene and located the vehicle, upside down and approximately 20 feet from the shore. A Chatham-Kent police traffic officer also attended and helped with reconstructing the collision.

The vehicle is believed to be linked to another stolen vehicle in Wallaceburg and the incident remains under investigation.

Man arrested for impaired driving 

A call from a concerned citizen is to thank for getting an allegedly impaired driver off  Chatham roadways.

Around 8 p.m. Saturday, Chatham-Kent police responded to a complaint about a vehicle that was driving all over the roadway.

Police were able to locate the vehicle on Park Avenue West and pull it over.

As a result of the investigation, a Petrolia man was arrested for impaired operation.

He was transported to police headquarters where he provided breath samples, which were over the legal limit.

He was also charged with having a blood alcohol content over the legal limit. The man was eventually released from custody with a future court date.

Break and enter arrest in Wallaceburg

A 32-year-old will have to answer to a few charges after getting arrested in connection to a break and enter in Wallaceburg.

Around 8:30 a.m., police were investigating a break and enter that happened on McNaughton Avenue. During the break in, the victim's purse was stolen with her debit card inside.

According to police, the card was used at a nearby store where officers located the suspect.

While placing him under arrest, police say the suspect resisted and attempted to flee.

The man was quickly subdued and placed into custody. He was also found to be in possession of several stolen items.

As a result, the Wallaceburg man was charged with break and enter as well as theft.

Pair arrested for bail violation

Two people are in trouble with the law after being caught together, despite court orders not to be.

On Saturday, Chatham-Kent police went to an address on Park Street in Chatham after getting information that there were two people together who were on conditions not to be.

When they arrived, police found a 24-year-old Chatham man and a 23-year-old Chatham woman. The man was arrested for failing to comply with his release conditions and the woman was arrested for facilitating the breach of conditions by allowing the male to attend her residence and communicate with her.

Warrant arrests 

Chatham-Kent police were able to locate a wanted man on Saturday.

Around 10 p.m., an officer on general patrol in Wallaceburg saw the man on McNaughton Avenue that was known to be wanted at the time.

The 30-year-old Wallaceburg man was arrested on a warrant for mischief and weapons dangerous charges.

According to police, he was also found in possession of break-in tools and charged accordingly.

The man was taken to police headquarters and held for a bail hearing.

Elsewhere, police in Chatham located a man on Grand Avenue East on Saturday afternoon who had an outstanding warrant for breaching his probation.

He was arrested and eventually released with a future court date.
