Chatham-Kent has several options for tossing your Christmas trees

With Christmas now behind us, many Chatham-Kent residents may be thinking about getting rid of their real Christmas trees.

There are a couple of options locally for going about that.

The municipality is encouraging people to bring any cut trees to the transfer stations in Camden, Dover, Harwich, and Wallaceburg, or the leaf and yard depots in Chatham and Romney, where it will be turned into wood chips.

Christmas trees can also be dropped off free of charge at the public works yards in Bothwell, Ridgetown, and Tilbury.

The Harwich transfer station will be closed on Thursday, December 31, and the Chatham leaf and yard depot, and the Wallaceburg and Harwich transfer stations will be closed on Saturday, January 1.

All the other depots will be open for their regular hours.

Christmas trees can also be left at the curb to be picked up on garbage day, however, trees that are picked up this way will go to a landfill instead.

With either option, residents are reminded to remove all decorations from the tree first.
