Another flood watch has been issued for the Lake Erie shoreline and Erie Shore Drive.
The Lower Thames Valley Conservation Authority (LTVCA) said strong south or southwest winds and high waves predicted for Wednesday could damage and erode the shore along Lake Erie, including the high bluffs and flood Erie Shore Drive and other low-lying areas along the shoreline in Chatham-Kent.
"Some forecasts are predicting that by early [Wednesday] morning sustained wind speeds could reach 35 km/hr. During the morning, winds are predicted to shift to the southwest. Winds are predicted to peak around noon with sustained wind speeds between 40 and 50 km/hr and possible gust over 70 km/hr," said LTVCA Watershed and Information Services Manager Jason Wintermute. "Winds are then predicted to drop back below 35 km/hr in the evening."
Wintermute added five to 10 millimetres of rain are also possible with this wind event and waves on Lake Erie are expected to be between one and two metres in height. He added residents and workers in shoreline areas should be prepared for slippery conditions because of the rain and freezing temperatures before and after this wind event.
"Earlier on in the event, when winds are from the southeast or south, more easterly facing locations such as Rose Beach Line and the area around Wheatley could see greater impacts than are seen from the more typical southwest winds," he said.
The LTVCA is asking people to be careful and avoid the shoreline.
The flood watch is in effect until New Year's Eve.
